Caring For Your Children from Cradle to College
Services
Dr. Farella takes pride and utmost interest in providing a number of services for her patients in addition to general pediatrics. Among these are:
ADD/ADHD Consultations
Parents are provided with an ADD/ADHD packet that includes the Connor’s Scale of Assessment. Parents, teachers, daycare workers, and anyone close to the child complete a Connor’s Scale (minimum of three reports required). The paperwork is returned to the office twenty-four hours prior to the appointment so that Dr. Farella can examine the reports. ADD/ADHD appointments are made Tuesday thru Thursday at 3:50 P.M so the remainder of the afternoon can be dedicated to your child. Dr. Farella will determine the need for medication based on her findings. She will not medicate your child unless it is absolutely necessary.
Adolescent Medicine
Growth and development issues can be discussed, sports physicals can be performed, and gender issues can be addressed. Dr. Farella has excellent rapport with teens. We are committed to the health of your preteen or teen. For that reason, we want to make sure you know about 4 diseases that could affect them, today or in the future.
Human Papillomavirus - Is a virus that causes cervical cancer in females and genital warts in males and females.
Meningococcal Disease (Meningitis) - Serious infection of the lining around the brain and spinal cord.
Pertussis (Whooping cough)-Is a highly contagious respiratory tract infection spread by coughing and sneezing.
Varicella (Chickenpox)-Usually produces a fever and an itchy rash that can turn into blisters. Adolescents and adults are at greater risk for serious complications.
We think this information is important. As usual, feel free to call us with any questions or to make an appointment.
Asthma
Asthma patients require and receive personalized treatment plans. Medications are prescribed and adjusted as needed to avoid asthma exacerbation. Quality of life is key for these kids and Dr. Farella works hard to see they have it.
Ear Piercing
We pierce the ears of infant girls (after their second set of immunizations) and young ladies through the teen years. We use topical medication to numb the ears and pierce both ears at the same time. The earrings are included in the cost and are 24 carat gold-plated. The procedure is completely sterile to avoid the possibility of infection.
Nutrition Counseling
Dr. Farella offers nutrition counseling for children who are under or over weight, who participate in sports, or who do not consume the necessary nutrients. She promotes and sells the Advocare line of products. Nutrition counseling is available at our office at 5:30 P.M. on the third Monday of each month. Check here for dates
Pre-Adoption Medical Consultations
Dr. Farella provides pre-adoption advice for prospective adoptive parents and foster parents. She will help potential parents make sense of any medical issues that may need to be addressed.
Sports Physicals
For students considering going out for a school or extracurricular sport, Dr. Farella provides a complete physical examination and completion of any required forms.
Urinary Tract Problems
Urinary tract problems provide a unique set of issues for children, particularly of school age. Enuresis, bed-wetting, and urinary tract infections are just three of the problems that affect young people and need to be addressed with compassion, care, and confidentiality.
Recommended Immunization Schedule
Following is a list of the recommended ages for visits to the office and the immunizations to be administered at those visits. A Brighter Tomorrow Pediatrics follows the guidelines established by The Centers for Disease Control and The American Academy of Pediatrics. We participate in the State of Texas ImmTrac System. If you grant permission for your child’s immunizations to be entered into the ImmTrac System, you can access your child’s immunization record at the Texas Department of Health web site.
