Frequently Asked Questions
- What insurance plans do you take?
Most major insurance plans are accepted. We do not accept Aetna HMO or Medicaid. Please consult with your insurance company for a provider list or call us to see if we accept your plan.
- What are your office hours?.
Our office hours are Monday thru Thursday from 8:30 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. and Friday from 8:30 A.M. until noon. Appointments with Dr. Farella are scheduled from 9:00 until 11:00 A.M. and from 1:00 until 4:00 P.M. There is an hour lunch break from 12:00 to 1:00 P.M.
- Where do you see hospitalized children and newborns?
Clear Lake Regional Medical Center.
- Are you affiliated with any other hospital?
Dr. Farella is affiliated with Texas Children’s Hospital and U.T.M.B. and can have patients admitted to those hospitals. She is not on staff, however, so she cannot visit patients at those facilities.
- Do you have a separate waiting room for well babies?
Yes. We have a well baby/nursing mother waiting area for infants from birth to nine months of age.
- Does your business support any local organizations?
Yes. The office sponsors a “Charity of the Month” each month with a local organization as the designated recipient. Children and their parents are invited to participate through contributions.
- Do you do ear piercing?
Yes. We pierce the ears of infant girls (after their second set of immunizations) and young ladies through the teen years. We offer this service only to our families.
- Does insurance pay for ear piercing?
No. Ear piercing is an out of pocket expense. We use topical medication, sterile procedures, and pierce both ears at the same time. The earrings are included in the cost and are 24 carat gold- plated.
- How do I know I want Dr. Farella to be my child’s Pediatrician?
We offer no cost, no obligation parent orientations for expectant parents and parents who are seeking a new Pediatrician. The dates for upcoming “New Mom Mondays” are listed in the services section of the website.
- If I have a question about my child, what should I do?
A general question about your child may be answered during the day by one of our staff members. You may have to leave your name, number, and a brief explanation of the information you are requesting. We will usually return your call the same day and definitely within twenty-four hours. After hours calls should be for emergencies only and a charge may be incurred.
- Where can I get a “breathing machine?”
We have breathing machines (nebulizers) available in the office. Insurance coverage for nebulizers varies depending on the company. If your insurance plan is not a participating provider with our nebulizer supplier, we will order one for your child from an outside source.
- What do I do when my child’s medication must be refilled?
Please see our refill policy in the Policy and Procedures section. Generally, controlled substance prescriptions require twenty-four hours notice prior to pick-up. For all other prescriptions, call your pharmacist and have them fax us a refill request. All prescription refills are subject to annual well child check-ups or recent visits.
- How do I know if my child needs shots?
Please see the list of recommended immunizations in the Services section of this website or contact www.cdc.gov/vaccines/recs/schedules for information.
- What should I do if my child ingests something that I think may be toxic or poisonous?
